札幌農学校の生徒である青年たちの、貧富の差や病気、学問、恋愛が描かれた青春物語である。まだ人口も少なく小さな町だった、明治33年の札幌を舞台に描かれる青年たちの様々な葛藤、交錯する少女おぬいへの思い、成長。
18の区切りから成るこの作品は、ひと区切りごとに視点となる人物が変わることが特徴で、それぞれが光り輝く星座のような存在として描かれている。
このような多視点的な構成は、1920年代初頭に書かれた日本の小説の中では珍しく、実験的な表現方法であった。
中でも、少女おぬいと渡瀬の場面は、それぞれの視点で一つの場面が描かれており、男女の心の動きの違いを感じ取ることができる。©2023 PanRolling
