一本の綱を引き合い勝敗を決める「綱引き」。五輪の正式種目だった時代もある、歴としたスポーツ競技だ。
東京・蒲田の綱引きチーム「プルスターズ」は、商店会結束の象徴として発足。全国大会優勝の実績も持つが、主力選手の高齢化や長引く不況の影響で休眠状態に。
しかし、チーム最年長53歳のキャプテン真島と、アイルランドからの留学生ケリーとの出会いがきっかけで、5年ぶりにチームを立て直すことになった。
母国では綱引き選手として活躍するケリーの指導で、ふたたびの日本一を目指し、練習をスタート。真島はスポンサー探しや新メンバー募集に奔走するも、道のりは平坦ではなく――。
