著者の肺結核の療養のために滞在した軽井沢の体験から描かれた作品。「序曲」「美しい村」の途中までを収録。
軽井沢のヴィラの立ち並ぶ静養地の風景が、一切の泥臭さを排した、まるで繊細な線画のように描かれ、すこしメルヘンチックですらあります。
私は70年代の萩尾望都の少女漫画のような世界観を想像しながら読んでしまいました。
This work is based on the author’s experiences in Karuizawa, where he stayed to recuperate from pulmonary tuberculosis. Included here are "Overture" and the first half of "Beautiful Village."
The scenery of Karuizawa’s villa-lined retreats is depicted like a delicate line drawing, stripped of all earthly coarseness, possessing a quality that is almost fairy-tale-like. While reading, I found myself imagining a world reminiscent of Moto Hagio’s 1970s shojo manga—a realm of ethereal beauty and quiet introspection.
著者：堀辰雄（1904ー1953） 室生犀星や芥川龍之介に師事したことで知られる小説家。彼の作品には当作品のように療養先の軽井沢を舞台にしたものが多く見られる。
