Giselle General ran for Edmonton City Council in Ward sipiwiyiniwak in 2021, placing second, and ran again in 2025. This is her story.
She is a Filipino-Canadian writer, artist, and community leader based in Edmonton. She came to Canada as a teenager after losing her parents, earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, and has worked in non-profit and government communications
As a creative, she writes non-fiction (for CBC, anthologies, local media) and makes upcycled mixed-media visual art. She’s writing a memoir about her childhood and immigration journey and is developing a documentary on Edmonton’s Filipino community.
In civic life, Giselle has served on boards such as the Edmonton Transit Advisory Board (including as Chair), the Edmonton Multicultural Coalition, and community leagues. She also volunteers heavily: sewing reusable bags, donating blood and hair, mentoring youth.
