They also chat about the highs and lows of two decades in Blood Red Shoes, the financial issues faced by musicians, indie sleaze, and the shocking physical abuse she faced early in her career. Carter's lyrics are filled with dry wit and emotional depth, matched by production that evokes lo-fi indie, vintage soul, and late-night introspection."
