For the County and the mountains. Wind chills are dipping to minus 25 degrees up north. That means frostbite can happen in just 10 minutes on exposed skin, so you'll want to cover up if you're heading out. In the next 24 hours. Here's what's happening across the state today. Portland climbs to 27 degrees under sunny skies. That's 13 degrees below normal for early March. Augusta reaches 23 degrees. Bangor tops out at 21. The mountains and the County stay frigid with highs near 14 degrees. Winds there are gusting to 25 miles an hour, making it feel even harsher. Tonight stays clear and cold. Lows range from minus 5 in the mountains to the teens along the coast. Tuesday brings a big rebound. Highs surge into the mid-30s statewide. but enjoy the quiet, because snow arrives Tuesday evening. A weak low develops in the Gulf of Maine and tracks toward Nova Scotia. Expect 1 to 3 inches from Bangor southward. Downeast areas could see 2 to 4 inches. The Wednesday morning commute may be slick.
