We had a pretty solid idea and an on-paper plan for what we wanted to do with our land well before we even finished buying it. But even still -- the mindset shift from homesteading to farmsteading (ie making money from your homestead) really requires you to re-evaluate some components and features of your land to decide IF you can make money from it and HOW you'll do that. A property that's ideal for homesteading may not be as conducive to "business use" as you'd initially think.
