About this listen
In 1990, director Albert Pyun created Captain America, a direct-to-video film based on the Marvel Comics character. It stars Matt Salinger as Steve Rogers/Captain America and Scott Paulin as the Red Skull. Menahem Golan produced the film for the now-defunct 21st Century Film Corporation. The director Pyun said that the 21st Century Film Corporation had chopped the film down before release and that he had a longer “director’s cut” of the movie, which sat in a closet until Pyun died in 2022. The film has since been remastered and newly released.
Kenny Williams runs Yippee Ki-Yay Mother Video, who has released this director’s cut of Albert Pyun’s Captain America. Kenny was a protégé of Pyun and is carrying on his legacy.
In this episode, Williams discusses the value of physical media and the impact Pyun had on his film aspirations.
