  • How to "Do Good" When "Times are Bad" - with Larry Brilliant
    Jul 21 2025

Welcome to AI Unplugged Without Borders, the video podcast series from the Transatlantic AI eXchange—where we go beyond the headlines with the leaders shaping the future of AI.

Today is another special episode. We're sharing a deeply insightful Fireside Chat recorded live at our recent Remarkable Women in AI (RWIAI) Conference in Seattle.

How to "Do Good" When "Times are Bad" was a topic we discussed as part of an executive dinner event in Seattle.

Larry Brilliant has been at the heart of historic moments, working with global icons like Neem Karoli Baba, Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, Barack Obama, and the Dalai Lama. His journey spans medicine, spirituality, and social change—playing a key role in smallpox eradication in India, curing blindness in over 4 million people, and shaping Google’s philanthropic initiatives.

In a world shaken by uncertainty—market turmoil, shrinking healthcare budgets, public sector layoffs, and rising global conflict—how do we find meaning, purpose, and resilience?

Here are the questions we were discussing:

    • Are these truly the worst of times, or just a new kind of challenge?
    • How can we do good when the world feels unstable?
    • What practices help you stay grounded, joyful, and at peace?
    • What message of hope can guide those feeling lost in the noise of political, technological, and economic upheaval?
    • What actions can we take now to shape a better, more stable future?

Larry is, without question, one of the most profoundly inspiring voices in my professional journey. Listening to him is not only a joy, it’s a masterclass in humility, wisdom, and impact.

    Enjoy the conversation.

  • Prompt Engineering: Emerging trends for how human expertise is shaping AI assistants - with Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec
    Jul 15 2025

Welcome to AI Unplugged Without Borders, the video podcast series from the Transatlantic AI eXchange, where we bring you unfiltered conversations with the leaders shaping the future of AI. Today’s episode is unique as we like to share an incredible insightful KEYNOTE given at our recent RWIAI Conference in Seattle.

Join us for a powerful keynote with Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec, VP of Technology at Amazon Web Services (AWS), exploring emerging trends in how human expertise is shaping AI assistants. She’ll delve into the future of the workforce, evolving team dynamics, and why some industries are transforming faster than others through AI.

Mai-Lan has been working on data cloud services in AWS for 15 years and more recently, with the focus on data for AI model evolution and the development of inference in applications, she talks about three emerging trends she has observed about human interaction with AI. The ability of the human user to interact well with AI also plays a significant role in the capability of the AI. Here are three trends in how human expertise enhances AI assistance:

    1. A human’s ability to design personalized prompts significantly augments the AI’s ability to provide the most useful assistance.
    2. A human can use AI’s domain expertise to “boost” their ability to perform tasks that would otherwise be out of their skill set, changing team dynamics and speeding up project completion. In this case the human boosts their skills by leveraging AI domain expertise and becomes an expert themselves in using the AI, and that boosts the AI impact – a virtuous cycle.
    3. Even when an AI-assistant system simplifies AI usage for all users, a human can develop new skills to become “an advanced user” of AI.

Although the video quality is limited, I truly believe that the value and insights are worth sharing with all of you. For addition panel sessions feel free to visit www.transatlanticaiexchange.com.
