n the very first episode of 'Aao Sune.n', I bring before you one of my favourite stories, 'Ghoonghat', written by a prominent Urdu writer, Ismat Chugtai. This story is simple, easy on the ears, yet deeply tantilises you. Chugtai was an Indian Urdu novelist, short story writer, and filmmaker. She had a distinct voice in Urdu literature. Her work reflects realism. She is well known for her stories 'Lihaf' and 'Tedhi Lakeer'.

This story by Sa'adat Hassan Manto is about a man who is trapped in a false notion that his little son will die before he turns one. Due to this blind love for his son he has lost his mental balance. Two days before the first birthday, the baby falls sick and his father's suspicion increases about his death. The father feels choked in this notion and craves to die before his son does, so that he attains freedom from the tormenting suspicion.
