• S1 Ep 11 ”Comparing *NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys”
    Sep 9 2022

Once again, after a bit of a hiatus we have returned! The good news is we are back with a pretty epic episode! Your favorite Y2K bitches go where not many dare to go, and that is comparing *NSYNC with The Backstreet Boys. *le'gasp* The scandal, the controversy, how dare we!

We dared though. Even though *NSYNC won our teeny bopper hearts, we still gave The Backstreet Boys a fair shot, and are fans of BOTH boybands.

Real Talk takes us back to when we drew that line in the sand. What made one band stand out to us more than the other? How did we become more captivated and draw the line in the sand as OG fans? There were many factors, and we explore them all!

Nostalgia sends us on a ride with straight up comparisons. We compare the two groups with personality and style as well as a little insight on vocals. There's some shade being thrown here but it's all in good fun, we have nothing but love and respect for both groups. Sometimes favoritism happens though, we can't help it.

Writing/Roleplay explores the fan fiction world again in terms of BSB and *NSYNC cross over fiction. Anyone down to read a Frick and Frack fiction? (Nick and Brian) What about a Justin Timberlake and Brian Littrell slash fiction? It's out there for real.

To end things we play a fun game of guess the group member that said this quote. A BSB member or an *NSYNC member?

DISCLAIMER : All talk and comparisons in this episode are simply our own opinions. We are not bashing or hating on anyone within these two boybands, and are just giving our own take on things. You are entitled to agree or disagree with our observations and opinions. This is our view point and ours alone we do not speak for anyone else.

  • S1 Ep10 ”The Year 2010”
    Aug 26 2022

The Y2K Bitches are celebrating our 10th episode! Yay! In honor of us hitting double digits, we chose to cover the year 2010. A time where social media platforms took off! With the fall of MySpace came the rise of Facebook and Instagram.

For real talk, we get into the big life changes we were both going through. 2010 was an intense year full of new environments and some personal losses. It wasn't all sad times though, there were many good things that happened too!

The nostalgia segment dives deep into the music, fashion, TV shows and movies that were taking place in 2010. Let's just say it out loud...vampires, vampires galore. Music was leading into a more dance era, everyone loved a good scarf, and boots were a staple piece.

In writing and role play we talk about how the whole vampire craze inspired us write some paranormal stories of our own.

Hold on tight spider monkey as we travel back to the year 2010!

  • S1 Ep9 ”Warped Tour And Being Hardcore”
    Aug 19 2022

After a week long hiatus, episode 9 is finally here! This week we have a special guest. Our good friend Monica joins us to discuss all things Warped Tour and concert life. Mandy and Monica have been friends since high school, and have gone to concerts a plenty together.

In our Real Talk segment we basically have a full on slumber party, as we recall our early days, and how we all started out as bubble gum pop teenagers that converted over to the dark side of emo music and the punk pop take over.

For Nostalgia we recall our early days of Warped Tour in 2005, and how the punk pop scene didn't welcome us with open arms at first. We look back at some of our very first concerts, awkward run ins with band members, and accidental black eyes. Yikes!

In the Writing/Roleplay segment we put Monica on the hot seat as she spills the tea on one of her own fanfic stories starring one of the band members from the band Good Charlotte.

To wrap things up we play a very brutal game of 'Would You Rather'

Throw on those Converse, and grab your favorite merch shirt as we get Monica to flash back to her past with us!

Notes worth mentioning: Way back in the olden days, Mandy primarily went by the name 'Amanda'.

We recorded this episode over Zoom. There were some echo issues and feedback going on for the first few minutes, but it goes away we promise !

  • S1 Ep8 ”JC Chasez: Birthday Special”
    Aug 9 2022

Your favorite Y2K bitches Mandy and Spencer are back to bring you another awesome episode! This week's episode is all about the man, the myth, and one fifth of *NSYNC, JC Chasez. It's Leo season, so we thought we'd kick off the month with a special birthday episode for a well respected pop star who just so happens to be a Leo.

In our Real Talk segment, we have a bit of fun explaining what we would personally do for JC on his birthday if he were our 'homie', while Spencer also describes the perfect one on one birthday if he were her boo thang. Going right down a trip to memory lane, we talk about how it didn't seem that long ago that JC turned 23 when we were just teens back in 1999.

For Nostalgia, we fall deep into our 'feels' as we reminisce his infamous birthday's of the past, our favorite songs he's written, and the irony of going from one of the biggest pop stars in the world to being slighted by his record label and the music industry. We also share some of our own personal JC stories, encounters, and concert experiences!

Our Writing/Roleplay segment kicks off with a bang as we recall how JC was used as a face for a good amount of our writing and role-plays. We also daydream about character roles we would love to see him portrayed in!

SPECIAL FEATURE: This episode also hosts a reading that Spencer does on JC. It's pretty amazing, so be sure to listen for it at the 49:55 mark!

  • S1 Ep7 ”Fanfiction: Part I”
    Jul 29 2022

Guess who's back, back again, Y2K bitches are back, tell a friend. This week's episode is a favorite of ours for sure ! We jump head first into the world of Fanfiction part 1.

Boot up those old PC's, or dust off those old boxes as we uncover some of the most classic pieces of fanfic that we have ever laid eyes on. For our real talk segment we discuss the books that we read in our earlier days. Reading was the first introduction to writing, and from that stemmed some legit interest in story telling of our own.

Nostalgia talk runs deep with the websites we frequented in order to get our daily dose of fanfiction. Fanfiction.net, live journal, and even some fan sites used to host a wide variety of fanfics. We reminisce over the different genres, ships, and categories we read on the regular, and even the type of fanfiction we both ended up writing.

Join us for the writing/role play segment where we each read a few paragraphs from one of our OLD fanfictions! You don't want to miss this we promise.

  • S1 Ep4 “Blood, Sweat, & Tears”
    Jul 8 2022
Join us for an hour of nostalgic droll! In this episode we talk about the historical game changers that the early 2000’s delivered us Pop fans … and it was brutal.    Nostalgia talk - The shame and hate we experienced while staying loyal to the Pop Icons we loved. Mandy sported Britney Spears inspired pigtails, (equipped with pink pom-poms) and *NSYNC merch including but not limited to keychains, buttons, stickers, and school supplies.     Spencer meanwhile didn’t showcase any real Britney love until later but held onto a JC folder gifted to her by her bestie back home in West Virginia along with the NSA calendar. Beyond that she had in her procession *NSYNC chap sticks. Pretty snazzy right?   Unwavering in our stance we were often ridiculed and targeted amongst peers and family for holding on to that Pop life…    Because sure enough, it DID fade out. During that heartbreaking time for us die hards - it was difficult to remain loyal and faithful to the music and Pop culture icons of the time.      *NSYNC foreshadowed the decline of Pop in the early 2000’s with their infamous lyric of ‘what’s the deal with this pop life and when is it gonna fade out?’ Our Icons had a lot going on! The Prince and Princess of Pop broke up amongst all sorts of speculation. That was the beginning of the end as Justin went on to showcase an interest in a solo career, which ultimately resulted in our beloved boy band announcing a temporary hiatus in early 2002. As Mandy pointed out, we were lied to!    As Pop faded out some Punk icons waiting in the wings came forward by kicking down the door giving absolutely no fucks!   When Punk Princess Avril Lavigne came on the scene, a few other young female starlets tried to capitalize and invoke a sound and style that was growing in popularity. We discuss how Ashlee Simpson and Lindsay Lohan came forth to give us some of their most iconic moments in Pop Culture history with Rumors and Pieces of Me.    On Monday, I am waiting on Tuesday I’m fading and by Wednesday I can’t breathe…    Is that stuck in your head now? You’re welcome. ^_^    Once the bubble gum pop exploded - we were left with black nail polish, eff you attitude, spiked belts, bracelets, vests, and ties. The angst was so good! We loved it so hard and still do to this day. MTV really embraced this direction as they focused on reality shows and punk logic. It’s incredible to look back and recognize how our peers were primarily over the world of celebrity. The opportunity afforded to Punk Rockers gave us some notable hits such as Good Charlotte’s Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. (At the time MTV & VH1 was all about giving us glimpses of the fabulous lives of celebrities.)    With the rebellion of Bubble Gum pop, MTV brought us Jackass with Johnny Knoxville and Viva La Bam. Sk8ter Boi’s were all the rage! Element Skating and Tony Hawk.   What a time to be alive!   Writing/Role Play - here we both acknowledge how detrimental music was and still is to us. Inspiring us in a variety of ways, we began to gravitate towards more serious writing. In the early days we started out reading, writing and roleplaying humorous fanfiction. Which we absolutely loved! But for the most part we did nothing but exaggerate the personas our boybands and Pop tarts were instructed to showcase.    Though we no longer engage in shorthand role-play — some of the sites we frequented in the early days are still very much alive! So be sure to check them out of you’re interested in writing and role-play.    Check out: Rpol.net  Check out: Fanfiction.net    We loved a good late night laugh session, and our humor stories, but slowly and surely we saw ourselves transitioning into a serious direction. Again, music played a very important part in the rebirth of our writing partnership. Thank you, LolaRay - Green Day and Dashboard Confessional! Of course, these weren’t the only CDs we were buying and burning, but they did influence and inspired us to try something a little different.    Side Note: There are many other artists that broke out onto the scene that we will be exploring and focusing more on in upcoming episodes. We’re both MCR girls through and through, and Spencer has been rocking a crush on Brendan Urie for a hot minute. As for Fall Out Boy… they might need their own episode dedicated to them.    More to come! Thanks for giving our podcast a listen. We hope you enjoyed the show!   Love you byyyye – Spencer and Mandy   Links:   Lance Bass T-Shirt  N’sync Chapstick  JC Chasez Folder   CD Boom Box Duel Player Dual VHS players/recorders   Ashlee Simpson Pieces of Me  Good Charlotte’s Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous   VH1’s The Fabulous Life of Lindsay Lohan   Lola Ray Automatic Girl  Green Day American Idiot Album  Dashboard Confessional Vindicated
