Airportle, the new global version of the popular word puzzle "Wordle," is taking the world by storm. The game challenges players to guess a three-letter IATA airport code within six attempts. Created by the team behind Scott's Cheap Flights, the aim is to name the airport of the day. When a letter is correctly placed, the tile turns green, and if it's present in the code but in the wrong spot, it turns yellow. Already used letters that don't form part of the code are grayed out, helping players focus on the remaining options. If the code is not entered correctly in six tries, players receive an "X."

The game is based on the open-source clone of Wordle, and the creators hope that it will provide entertainment during flight delays and also test the knowledge of airport enthusiasts. The original Wordle was designed by Josh Wardle for his partner and gained popularity, starting with 90 players on November 1st, 2021, and reaching three million players by the end of January 2022.

While strategies for winning Wordle have been widely discussed online, it remains primarily a guessing game. The same strategies used for Wordle won't work for Airportle as airport codes make use of less common letters like X, Y, and Z, and vowels play a different role. Today marks the 30th day of Airportle and the 226th day of Wordle, with each day's puzzle being numbered.
