  • Episode 70: 88 Minutes with Sam Clements

88 Minutes is the (supposed) real-time thriller that had Dr. Jack Gramm (Al Pacino - The Godfather, Carlito's Way, City Hall) a forensic psychologist, help in the condemnation of a serial killer, Jon Forster (Neal McDonough - Suits, Tulsa King, Desperate Housewives). On the day of Forster's final execution, Jack receives a threat call informing him that he has 88 minutes to live.

Directed by Jon Avnet (Righteous Kill, Fried Green Tomatoes, Up Close & Personal) and also starring Leelee Sobieski (Deep Impact, Joy Ride, Never Been Kissed), Alicia Witt (Urban Legend, Two Weeks Notice, Dune), Benjamin McKenzie (The O.C., Gotham, Southland).

Sam Clements, director of marketing for Picturehouse cinemas in the UK, joins the podcast to discuss this 2007 thriller. Clements discusses the oddball touches within the film, why he didn't care about the reveal of the murderer and how the real-time aspect of the film doesn't actually work.

  • Episode 68: Looking For Richard with Matt Zoller Seitz
    Apr 6 2026

Looking For Richard was Al Pacino's directorial debut. It explores William Shakespeare's lasting impact in pop culture, particularly the playwright's highly regarded "Richard III." The documentary includes on-the-street interviews with ordinary people and academic perspectives from Shakespearean scholars. Actors such as Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express, Much Ado About Nothing, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Alec Baldwin (Glengarry Glen Ross, Beetlejuice, 30 Rock), Kevin Spacey (The Usual Suspects, Seven, American Beauty) and Winona Ryder (Dracula, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands) talk about preparing to play key scenes of "Richard III," which come staged with Pacino in the title role.

Film and TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz joins the podcast to discuss the documentary. Matt talks about how this is a different type of Shakespeare documentary, why Pacino is trying to open The Bard up to the masses and what makes this such an accessible piece of filmmaking. Matt also talks about what it's like seeing Pacino up close with his fans.
