About this listen

The Alternative Review for Skeptics is not just reviews of alternative films, music and books – though of that there will be plenty – it’s also a review of life’s more mundane or bizarre aspects, looking at them from an alternative point of view, with a healthy dose of skepticism. Due to the nature of your host, the episodes will also have dark humour, the potential for some sarcasm and some will have a more serious edge. No one is safe from the skepticism – you can run, but I doubt you can hide.Alternative Reviews For Skeptics 2022 Art

  • The Singing Voice Of Former Alice in Chains Lead Singer Layne Staley
    May 7 2022

In this week's episode, I will be reviewing the singing voice of the former Alice in Chain's lead singer Layne Staley. I will start with a few facts about his music career and a brief outline of his life, followed by a little about my own experience of his music and then describe why his voice is unique, but obviously with some skeptical views thrown in.

  • Ghosts and the Paranormal - real or imagination review
    Apr 30 2022

In this episode, I will be reviewing the topic of the paranormal - discussing my own experience, as well as answering one question: is it real, or just the imagination running riot? In this open-minded discussion, I will outline my experience with a haunted balloon, a ghost who always flushes the toilet (thankfully disposing of all that dark matter!) and talking to Billy using a toe. If you are skeptical about the subject or a firm believer, have a listen and decide for yourself whether what I experienced may have been real or just my imagination running riot.

  • Music Festivals Skeptical Review - are they worth it?
    Apr 30 2022

In this episode, I will be reviewing music festivals - the episode centres around my own experience of attending Download Festival in Donington for many years, but I'm sure there are plenty of details which apply to other music festivals too! I relay anecdotes of getting stuck in the mud, inappropriate clothing, being assaulted by security and encounters with dark matter in the portable toilets. I then wrap it up with a skeptical review, followed by answering the episode's question: are music festivals worth going to?
