    Apr 17 2026

Sarah Everard was abducted, raped and murdered in London on 3rd March 2021 by Wayne Couzens, a serving Metropolitan Police officer, who used his warrant card and handcuffs to stage a fake arrest for breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules.

Her murder caused widespread outrage and prompted conversation about women's safety in public spaces & damaged the public’s trust in the police. Leading to the Angiolini Inquiry that sought to examine how such a horrific crime could happen.

  • 05. Legal Precedent: R v R (1991)
    Apr 10 2026

The case of R v R (1991) set legal precedent when the House of Lords abolished the ‘marital rape exemption’, meaning that a husband could be found guilty of raping his wife, something which, prior to this case, had not been the case. This case reflected the changing attitudes of women and their roles in marriage, viewing them more as equal partners, rather than subservients to their husbands.

  • 04. Serial Killer: Peter Sutcliffe
    Apr 3 2026

From 1975-1980, Yorkshire was terrorised by 13 brutal murders and several attempted murders, that we know of.

The rampant misogyny of the police and broader public attitudes left a number of victims and victim’s families further traumatised and led to one of the notoriously botched investigations in West Yorkshire.

Peter Sutcliffe was caught in early 1981, not through the police investigation into the murders, but through the instincts of a single officer.
