The Ark and the Dove takes its name after the two companion ships that brought English Catholic settlers to Maryland in 1634. Among the colonists on board was Mathias de Sousa, the first recorded black Catholic in Maryland, who later became an elected representative in the Maryland Assembly.   • The Neighborhood: Blockbusting in Baltimore City

    This episode will discuss how the West Baltimore neighborhood of Edmondson Village changed from being essentially all White to all Black in the course of 10 years. Historians Ed Orser and John Tillman explain the practice of “blockbusting” and how corrupt bank practices such as land installment contracts played into this transition.
