About this listen

Welcome to Bluebird Days! This is a podcast about looking forward to the little things in everyday life.

There seems to be a lot of negativity in the world these days. Or maybe it's just more visible now. I created this podcast because I want to bring some light and some optimism to my world and to yours, and to help us all focus on what excites us and what makes us happy.

A little bit about myself: I'm a Gen Xer who feels like he's always on the move. I'm addicted to coffee, love to binge watch shows on our umpteen streaming services, and use brain rot words in everyday conversation to annoy the crap out of our kids.

Between my wife and I, we have two full time jobs, side gigs, volunteer activities, five kids aged between elementary and high school, and two dogs. Three of the kids and one dog were hers, two kiddos and the other dog were mine - we were married this fall (2025) and all are ours now half the time. Our kids are amazing, and they keep us busy in all the best ways. On the podcast, the kiddos are M1, M2, M3, C, and H. Wifey is M Prime - she’s an M also - and I'm Alan, aka Backup Parent (the kids and dogs all go to M Prime first for anything).

We live in the mountains of Colorado, which is a beautiful, peaceful, grounding place to raise a family. We have our kids every other week, and when the house is full, it’s full - energy, laughter, chaos, homework, gear and coats and shoes piled up by the front door. And when it’s just my wife and me, we catch our breath, drink our coffee (or wine) a little slower, and remember how good this life is.

What do YOU look forward to? Tell us in episode comments and we'll give you a shout out in an upcoming episode!

  • 103 An Unprogrammed Weekend, and Teaching the Importance of Giving Back
    Jan 30 2026

If you can hear a slight sigh of relief in my voice today, it’s because I’m looking at my digital calendar for this Saturday and Sunday, and for the first time in - I don’t know - two months? There are no blue blocks. No alerts. No "Departure in 15 minutes" notifications.

In the second part of today’s episode, I talk about gratitude as an action and why it's important to us to teach our kids to give back to our community.

    Thanks for listening!

  • 102 It's Brain Bowl Season!
    Jan 24 2026

Welcome to today's episode - “It's Brain Bowl Season.” I'm sitting here with my second cup of coffee looking out the window at the peaks on the horizon - we had a couple of fantastic bluebird days at Steamboat last weekend, and there’s been a fresh dusting of snow since then. It’s quiet right now, but if you know my house, you know that quiet is a rare commodity.

Today I want to talk about something that's filling our home with a unique buzz starting this weekend - school knowledge competition season!

  • 101 Welcome to Bluebird Days - Finding Joy in the Little Things; and Man I Can't Wait for a Long Weekend on the Slopes
    Jan 16 2026

Hey there, and welcome to Bluebird Days, a podcast about gratitude and looking forward to the little things in everyday life. I'm super excited to kick off the new year with this podcast, about sharing my thoughts and experiences with you, and to learn about yours as well.

The first part of today's episode is "Welcome to Bluebird Days - Finding Joy in the Little Things," where I introduce myself to you.

The second part of today’s episode is titled “Man I Can't Wait for a Long Weekend on the Slopes.” M Prime and I are heading out today for a few days of skiing - just the two of us. No carpooling. No sports schedules. No grocery lists for seven people. Just us, our gear, and a long drive through the mountains in the pickup.
