    US Energy caught up with North Dakota Legendary farmer and rancher, Gabe Brown, from Bismarck, North Dakota. Gabe tells his story about how he went from the old industrial, commercialized model of farming and ranching to the regenerative model. He takes us through his book, Dirt to Soil:


    The six principles of soil health are:

    1. Context
    2. Limited disturbance. Limit mechanical, chemical, and physical disturbance of soil.
    3. Armor.
    4. Diversity.
    5. Living roots.
    6. Integrated animals.


    He shares educational resources and we talk about problems and challenges in the industry from fake 'Made In America' products, Education, Regulation, Farm-to-table and much more!

    This episode features Executive Director, Megan Laudenschlager, with Strengthen ND a leading non-profit focused on community development. Strengthen ND has been building non-profit and rural capacity since their inception in 2015. In this episode she talks about the importance of community resilience, capacity-building, and sustainability.


    Strengthen ND is a recent grant recipient of the Gates Foundation: Voices for Economic Opportunity Grand Challenge grant. Megan covers a variety of topics from the importance of Agriculture in ND, the challenges our communities are facing with behavioral health, to what she feels is the number 1 concern for North Dakotans right now - overcoming hopelessness. We also touch on the impacts of Covid-19 and how the state will need to work together through cooperation and collective action to adapt and overcome these hardships.
