    Today is October 16, 2022.

    It's autumn in Japan!


    Today’s talk is about school lunches in Japanese elementary schools.


    School lunches are served at public elementary schools in Japan.

    When lunch time approaches, children can smell the delicious aroma of school lunch from the lunchroom.

    It makes everyone soar during class!


    School lunch attendants load large pots onto carts and carry them to the classrooms.

    Lunch helpers dressed in a white 「Kappo-gi」 are serving the food onto plates.

    「Kappo-gi」 is a Japanese cooking apron.

    Everyone lines up in front of the pot, receives a plate, and takes it to their desks.


    After all, curry is the most popular dish!

    Other popular dishes include lasagna, fruit punch, soybean flour bread, and many more!

    There are many other popular items on the menu!


    Every day, rice or bread, milk, staple food, and side dishes are usually served.

    Any leftover food can be eaten by the winner of rock-paper-scissors-scissors!

    When it comes to jelly or pudding, the battle is fierce!


    When I talk about this, I was thinking...

    I feel like going back to elementary school and eating school lunch!


    Next time, I would like to talk about field trips.

    My daughter is excited about her first field trip!

    今日は2022年10月16日です。

    日本は秋になってきました！


    今日のトークテーマは、小学校の給食についてです。


    日本の公立小学校では給食があります。

    給食の時間が近づくと、給食室で作られた給食のいい匂いがしてきます。

    授業中もみんなソワソワしてしまいます！


    給食係が大きな鍋をカートに載せて教室まで運びます。

    給食係は白い割烹着を着て、お皿によそっていきます。

    割烹着とは、日本のエプロンのことです。

    みんなが鍋の前に並んで、お皿を受け取って自分の机に持っていきます。


    なんと行っても、カレーは一番人気です！

    その他にも、ラザニア、フルーツポンチ、きなこパンなど、

    人気のメニューがたくさんあります！


    毎日、ご飯かパン、牛乳、主食、副菜が基本で出ます。

    このったものはじゃんけんで買った人が食べることができるので、

    ゼリーやプリンのときは壮絶な戦いが繰り広げられます！


    こんな話をしていると、

    私も小学生に戻って、給食を食べたくなってしまいました！


    次回は、遠足についてお話したいと思います。

    私の娘は、初めての遠足にワクワクしています！

In Japan, tomorrow is also a national holiday, being Physical Education Day, so we have three days off in a row! Today's talk topic is about going to elementary school in Japan. Last time we talked about the entrance ceremony for Japanese elementary schools! From the day after the entrance ceremony, children walk to school. A japanese school bag "randoseru" weighs about 1.1 to 1.3 kg. In addition, it is quite heavy because it holds textbooks and a pencil box. Public elementary schools serve lunch, so we don't bring a lunch, but we bring a water bottle with tea or water. It is very discouraging to go to school alone, isn't it? Depending on the school, children who live close to each other may go to school together. My daughter's school does not have a group school, so I followed her to the school gate! But there were many children walking alone and few children were followed by their parents. What about going home? Right after they enter the school, they come home without lunch. Most children up to roughly the third grade whose parents are working go to "Gakudou". "Gakudou"　is after school center, there are plenty of public one, private one, and more! My daughter goes to a private after school center who studies English. One days when there is no school lunch, the Gakudou provides lunch. They also take her to and from school by bus, so we don't have to worry! In my next entry, I would like to talk about school lunches in Japan. When I was a kid, I used to get a second helping every day! They are very tasty! ありがとうございました。 今日は、日本の公立小学校への登校についてお話させていただきました。 これからも、英語の勉強になるように配信を続けていきます！ Thank you for Listening！ We hope you enjoy the next broadcast! 【Japanese script】 今日は2022年10月9日です。 日本では、明日も「体育の日」で祝日だから3日間連休です！ 今日のトークテーマは、「小学への登校」についてです。 前回、日本の小学校の入学式についてお話しました！ 入学した次の日から、子どもたちは徒歩で学校まで登校します！ 日本の通学バッグ「ランドセル」は大体1,100～1,300gくらいで、 教科書と筆箱を入れるので、さらに重くなります。 公立小学校は給食があるので、お弁当は持っていきませんが、水筒にお茶を入れて持っていきます。 1人で通うのはことっても心細いですよね？ 学校によって、家が近い子どもで集団登校することもあります。 娘の学校は集団登校がないので、校門までついていきましたよ！ でも、１人で歩いている子が多く、親がついてきている子はほとんどいなかったです。 帰りはどうするのでしょうか？ 入学してすぐはお昼を食べずに帰ってきます。 親が仕事をしている子どもの多くは、大体3年生くらいまでは学童に行きます。 学童とは、学校のあとに行く 公立の学童や、私立の学童などたくさんあります！ 娘は英語を勉強する学童に通っています。 給食の無い日は学童で給食を出してくれて、 バスで送り迎えしてくれるので、安心です！ 次回は、日本の学校給食についてお話したいと思います。 私が子供の頃は毎日お代わりしていました！ とっても美味しいですよ！ Thank you very much! If my English is wrong, please don’t hesitate to tell me! I would be happy to learn new english words. Today is 30th Septemer,2022. Today’s talk theme is about elementary school entrance ceremonies. School in Japan starts in April. Children who will be 7 years old in April-March of that year will be enrolled in the school. Many public elementary schools do not have uniforms, but students will wear formal wear for the entrance ceremony. Class divisions have been announced and there are about 30 students in each class. The homeroom teacher and the class photo are taken. They receive many textbooks and carry them home in their Randoseru. Randoseru is a Japanese school bag. Although it does not necessarily have to be a Randoseru, many elementary school students use it. When I was a kid, it was mostly red for girls and black for boys, but now it’s all kinds of colors, light blue, pink, embroidered, it’s amazing! My daughter uses a beige school bag.
