About this listen

Controlling Your Emotions - Controls Your Future.   On Good Friday, 2001 while working patrol I got a call that would change the way my brain worked. I was dispatched to an unresponsive 4-month-old baby. I happened to be right around the corner to the home, so I got their quickly. Parking my cruiser I ran through the rain and right into the residence. The front door lead right into the living room where I saw a mother, sitting on the couch, hysterical, holding her baby boy on her lap. He was blue around the lips and cooler to the touch. I scooped him in my arms and instantly began cpr, placing my lips onto his.  19 years later I can still taste, feel, smell and see that baby in my memories. I was in the Emergency Room with the family when the they were told their child didn’t make it. I can still hear the sobs and wails that followed. In the end it was determined that the baby died due to complete negligence from the parents. Returning to Police Headquarters around four in the morning, I was devasted, destroyed and understandably upset, at the time I was twenty-seven with only four years on the job. As I walked into the department, downtrodden, my old school supervisor looked at me, fully aware of what just transpired. After a few moments of silence, he said, “What the fucks wrong with you?” I wasn’t overly surprised by the situation, just more defeated and in hindsight, confused. It was at that moment that I knew, in order to be successful not only in life, but in the career of law enforcement, I had to grow emotionally. It’s so important in Law Enforcement to be able to control all of your emotions, and this incident forced my hand to begin learning ways to do.  Within the career of Law Enforcement you are thrust into such high intensity and anxiety plagued situations that you have to make life or death, split second decisions. And you can’t make those decision effectively if you don’t have control of your emotions. Or you lack the self-confidence to make decisions and think quickly on your feet. Once we all realize how important it is to control our emotions, we quickly realize how successful we can become in life. How accomplished we can make our trip in the end. Looking back at that time with the loss of that baby, I realize now how much of a kid I was. How much mentally I had to mature and how much I had to learn about life and people. The positive thing for me is that I’ve always been an observer. I liked to listen and watch and have for the maturity of my life. I hate small talk, I can’t stand the telephone and I get bored very quickly. Trust me, although  this helps me to learn it makes feeling satiated or accomplished very difficult. Law Enforcement has taken so much of me that I need to constantly remind myself of the core values my mother and father taught me. I must find my path to my true passions and direct my efforts to line those passions up with Prepare To Acts path. The idea of this post is understanding how important it is to control our emotions and strengthen our emotional intelligence. By controlling this our success is limitless.   5 Tips To Make It Happen   Do Not React Right Away - Every Decision Has Two Options, The Right And Wrong One.
