About this listen

'Culture Stew' is a podcast created by FOYER magazine and presented by founder Fiona Livingston. Each episode, released once per month, is a guide to culture and identity through food, specifically stews, from creative and entrepreneurial individuals from mixed heritage, second generation and TCK backgrounds. Stews not only exist in various guises, names and forms but are also a wonderful metaphor for the different cultural fusions that make up who we are. We hope that this podcast will help you to connect with cultures through new perspectives and flavours.FOYER Magazine Art Cooking Food & Wine

  • Culture Stew: Anna Hamill
    Oct 8 2024

Today we speak to Anna Hamill, a small business owner of And Hope Designs, where Anna designs cards, stationery and homeware, working with local manufacturers to make her products. We talk about growing up as an English person in France, how to become part of a community, the power of walking, how your homeland can feel foreign, positive distractions, discovering the truth about ‘langue’ and hiding grapefruit, the awkwardness of correcting your English teacher, champ with spring onions and raclette with nutmeg, embracing being different, and of course, cheese.

For listeners not familiar with Third Culture Kids or TCK terminology, these are people who were raised in a culture other than their parents' or the culture of their country of nationality, and have also lived in different environments during a significant part of their child development years.
