The tropes were troping, the twists weren’t exactly shocking, and yet… I still ate it up. In this episode I’m unpacking Empire of Flames by Marion Blackwood, what I liked, what I questioned, and why predictable fantasy can still be fun.

You guys told me to read Credence by Penelope Douglas, so I pushed through and finished it...even when I wasn’t enjoying it. This isn’t a recap. It’s me processing why the characters lost me, why the relationships didn’t work for me, and why the ending didn’t land the way I hoped it would.

The Passengers by John Marrs has too many characters and twists to neatly explain, but what really stuck with me was how crazy it felt, especially knowing self-driving cars already exist. We’re talking about trapped passengers, internet voting on who deserves to live, nonstop twists, and why this book stressed me out more than I expected.
