  • 11: Dyslexia & Speech Pathology with Samantha Carr
    May 20 2024

We've all had a discussion about the best type of academic intervention for our child. More often than not, a speech pathologist is not at the top of that list. But maybe they should be.

As you will learn in this episode, the job title is no match for their extensive training or ability to support literacy development. In this chat with leading Speech Pathologist and Director of Speak & Write, Samantha Carr, we discuss the types of intervention and support a "speechie" can offer, how to get the most out of therapies, the benefit of working with your child's school, online vs face-to-face and my favourite topic of all, how can we do things differently.

This episode is excellent for parents, educators, fellow therapists, and other professionals who advise parents raising children with learning differences.

Speak and Write offers services nationally to children of all ages and abilities. Samantha's details are below, should you wish to reach out to discuss the suitability for your child.

  • 10: The Impact Of Poor Mindset
    May 14 2024

The impact of a poor or fixed mindset on your child goes well beyond the classroom and their academic achievement. In today's episode, I talk about one of my favourite topics, shifting mindset, and how this can completely change how our children experience the world. If your child or students are scared of failure, give up easily or are saying things like "I'll never be able to do this", "I'm not smart enough", "I dont' want to try", or any variation, then this is the perfect episode to dive into and learn some of the practical strategies to help them shift.

If you find this episode valuable, please share it with your friends, family, colleagues or child's educator. The rising tide lifts all boats.

  • 9: Alleviating The Feeling Of Shame
    Apr 24 2024

It's not uncommon for children growing up with dyslexia to experience shame. It comes in many forms, but for many, it centres around the fact that they don't fit in easily, that they can't do things as quickly as others, that they are letting grown-ups down, that they aren't good enough or deemed normal. Our children need to be guided through these sometimes intense feelings so they don't impact their well-being and future potential.
