In today's episode, Haylie Pomroy is joined by Dr. Marc Kesselman, Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Nova Southeastern University. Together, they examine autoimmunity through a clinical lens, discuss its higher prevalence in women, and review key laboratory tests that may be considered in the evaluation of autoimmune conditions.

Dr. Kesselman further outlines the risks and potential triggers of autoimmunity, the role of nutrition in supporting recovery, and how he helps patients navigate the fear of disease flares through individualized treatment strategies and patient education.

He also emphasizes the importance of monitoring inflammatory markers, fostering a strong patient–provider relationship, and addresses questions from the community.

Dr. Marc Kesselman is the chair and associate professor at the Department of Internal Medicine at Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also the chief of the Division of Rheumatology at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Kesselman received his medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years.
