Before pausing his career in 2020, he had been Chief Sports Writer at The Telegraph, The Guardian, Mail and The Observer. He has co-authored several sports autobiographies too including, most recently Kevin Sinfield's 'The Extra Mile'. He also wrote the definitive 150-year history of the England men's team in the book 'England Football - The Biography (1872-2022)'.
Paul's sports journalism has taken him all over the world, covering Men's World Cups and Olympics.
