In this episode of the PSJA Tri-City Talks Podcast, we explore how Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD is expanding opportunity beyond the classroom by investing directly in parents through its Community Engagement model.
Designed to increase parent involvement and strengthen the connection between families, schools, and community partners, PSJA ISD’s Community Engagement Department provides continuing education and workforce pathways for all parents of current PSJA students. Through these programs, parents can enroll in college courses, receive support completing FAFSA and TASFA applications, learn valuable skills and trades, earn industry certifications, and explore entrepreneurship opportunities.
Participation is open to all PSJA parents, regardless of home language or status. In return, parents commit to volunteering at least 15 hours per semester at their child’s campus, reinforcing the powerful partnership between home and school. With nine locations across the district, families have accessible pathways to growth and advancement.
The PSJA Elvis Ballew Learning Center serves as a key hub within this broader Community Engagement initiative, helping parents continue their education, build confidence, become informed advocates for their children, and serve as strong role models within their families.
When parents are empowered, students are inspired.
Discover how PSJA ISD is strengthening families, improving student achievement, and creating Opportunities for All through meaningful community engagement.
