This podcast is from Solving Sacramento's "Suds & Solutions" event series. Today's discussion is centered around a new initiative of over 150 organizations in eight California counties. Our guests this week are Darcy Totten (California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls) and Dr. Stacey Chimimba Ault (The Race and Gender Equity Project).

We'll hear about what deep rest and care means on a personal level, what it means to care for your social circle, how our work culture leads to the cycle of burnout. To add to all of that, if you're a woman, you'll learn how much heavier that load can be under the social systems in place both at work and at home.

It's easy to adopt a misconception about college that once you're in, it's smooth sailing. This week, leaders of higher ed institutions in Sacramento help to focus in on what their institutions are doing to combat those misconceptions and more. From the the systems in play that increase barriers for Black and brown students to the pandemic pivots that they had to make to serve their student population and what their leaders are doing to walk the walk when it comes to serving their traditionally underserved students.

When it comes to your food, does it ever cross your mind where and how it gets to your grocery store? Farm ownership is one part of the journey, how that food gets to people who need it is another and both are part of the conversation on today's Equity in the Capitol.

Get to work, get to school, get to the grocery store (or have groceries get to us) — there's no end to the need for transportation in this country and the Sacramento region. While there's an abundance of options on how we get from Point A to Everywhere Else, access and opportunity can vary wildly depending on where you live. Today, Kacey Lizon (SACOG) and Kendra Macias Reed (Franklin Neighborhood Development Corporation) discuss the transportation-related benefits for neighborhoods that go beyond cars, trucks and bus lines.

Housing affordability issues and availability are likely to hover around Sacramento for some time, but there's no shortage of ideas around how to tackle those issues. Sometimes there's so much that it's difficult to decipher what's helpful and what's fluff. This week, the Sacramento Business Journal's Ben van der Meer and CapRadio's Chris Nichols sit down to talk about covering a massive issue within Sacramento and the nation at large.
