He is a professor of gastroenterology at University of Leeds, honorary consultant gastroenterologist at St. James's University Hospital, Leeds, UK, and the deputy editor of Gut. He joins FG editor Dr. Philip Smith and deputy editor Dr. Aditi Kumar to reflect on his career and the learnings he's taken from it.

    This is the first part in a mini-series of three parts. In this episode Prof. Ford recounts his non-academic upbringing, his chance entry into academia, and the rewarding mentorship he experienced early in his career.
