About this listen

”Family Tape Tree” is a surreal and absurd fictional podcasted rooted in the world of the improvisational jam band, Phish. It follows Lexi, a sensitive and surly teen, who discovers her deceased father’s collection of Phish cassette tapes from the ’90s while packing for college. Through ”grief magic” Lexi travels into the tapes and relives those memories with younger versions of her parents and their friends. Over the course of several groove-based-psychedelic-infused-head-bobbing-adventures with the memory of her late father, Lexi learns to come to terms with his death and is able to look forward to her future. As much a story about loss and love as it is about parking lot grilled cheeses and heady jams, “Family Tape Tree” takes the listener through Phish’s vast history, to follow the story of a group of friends, a band, and the impossible task of processing loss. Absurd caricatures from the parking lot, toe-tapping grooves, and a sudden urge to call your parents; “Family Tape Tree” has something for everyone!Copyright 2024 All rights reserved.

New Year's Eve is a holiday that celebrates both endings and beginnings, making it the perfect night for Lexi to have one last Phish show with her dad. With the house packed up, Lexi and Helen are ready to head their separate ways for a while. Unable to walk away from Vegas '04 as her last Phish experience in the magical world of her dad's tapes, Lexi pops in the last show Peter recorded: New Year's Eve 2010. Together they meet up with their parents for a night of Phish in the Big Apple, where they catch up with old friends from their life on the road, track down the ever-elusive Phish NYE ticket, and get some inside information on the inner workings of this magical tape universe.
