  • The Finishing Fairy Helps You Learn to Finish Needlepoint
    May 17 2026
Amanda Metes, The Needlepoint Finishing Fairy, joins us to talk about her journey from stitcher to finisher to finishing educator. She’s accomplished a lot in a short time and the result is a terrific resource that will help you “get your ornaments to the tree” and eventually tackle bigger, more complex projects. During the conversation, we also get some tips from Amanda about what you can do while stitching to make quality finishing possible, along with a discussion of the pros and cons of using glue. Note that hot glue is basically all con. We hope you enjoy the conversation and then visit her website to join her community of needlepointers who finish.—Cindy and Gary Listen to the podcast: This show is also available on FlossTube. • Michelle Agnew Sculpts with Gold Thread
    May 10 2026
Michelle Agnew wanted more for her designs than traditional gold work and stump work techniques could provide. So, using those techniques as a foundation, she developed (and is still developing) her own approaches. The result is gold work sculpture that adds a new dimension to the gold-thread world of needle arts. Her efforts have earned her a Hand & Lock prize and resulted in a full-time needlework business that, in addition to her own art, involves teaching, working in the fashion industry, exhibiting, and creating commissioned pieces. After you hear her story, take some time to visit her website and social-media channels and absorb her terrific art.—Gary Listen to the podcast: This show is also available on FlossTube. • Jessica Grady’s Embroidery Reaches Many Levels
    Apr 26 2026
This week’s guest is embroiderer Jessica Grady. The show is sponsored by Avlea Folk Embroidery. Please support our sponsors and let them know you heard about them from Fiber Talk. Jessica Grady’s art is likely the most dimensional, non-stumpwork, embroidery you’ll ever see. Sequin-shaped items were her original inspiration but, as you’ll see, she’s way beyond stitching disks to cloth. Her art is only part of it. The prep work of dyeing, cutting, and assembling sub-parts is a creative process unto its own. Be sure to visit her social media and consider participating in a workshop. For Fiber Talk Patreon members, we recorded a second show in which we explore all that went into creating three of her pieces. • Canvas #6: Getting Picky About Perle
    Apr 15 2026
As anyone who has stitched with perle cotton knows, there are some nuances to using the versatile thread, particularly the tendency to twist and untwist. In Canvas #6, we spend a few minutes talking about those nuances. We hope this helps less-experienced stitchers and, as always, there might be a tip or forgotten thing for veterans.
