• Season Two: The IPCC Report
    Sep 11 2021

Welcome to the premiere episode of season 2! We are excited to be back in the home studio kicking off another season of sustainability-focused discussion, with a sprinkling of humor and some helpful tips to get your own sustainability journey started. This episode focuses on the recently published IPCC report, and our main takeaways from it. Amanda took the time to craft three main points of interest, and we use those to guide our talk today. We reflect on what the publication of this report means for the environmental/sustainability movement, and if it has the ability to spark any lasting change. This episode wrestles with the idea that it may be too late to change everything, but it’s never too late to change something.

  • Building Back Better: The First 100 Days
    May 15 2021

This episode focuses on the Biden Administrations recently released Infrastructure spending bill, and President Biden's first 100 days in office. The ladies are here to bring a sustainability magnifying glass to the proposed bill, and dissect and discuss its many parts and how they relate to sustainability. It's time to redefine in(fun)structure, so tune it to hear how Haylee and Amanda make the case that it's not all about building roads and bridges, but including economic principles like increasing quality of life and accessibility. It's another episode where the Three Pillars (cake layers) are highlighted and put front and center, particularly for a proposed bill that has the potential to be quite environmentally damaging if the Planet Pillar is left by the wayside. Enjoy!

We know cleaning up the energy grid doesn't end with our homes and cars, but the nuts and bolts can be a little (a lot) confusing. Amanda and Haylee are here to demystify where the internet actually lives, and give tips and tricks on how to clean up your wifi-specific energy footprint. See the linked article below to jumpstart your understand of what happens behind the stream.

Specifically the differences between renewable, non-renewable, and clean energy,  how they fit into life right now, and what the future of energy might look like.  We pick apart what energy really is (it's not actually a thing at all), and relate the use of energy back to trying to live your best life while simultaneously not burning the planet down. Mar 8 2021

Welcome back to another episode in our Reinventing the Green Wheel series! This week we have our second ever guest on the show; the amazing Ana Bogusky is here to talk all things fashion and sustainability! Haylee and Amanda are here to  break down buzzwords and ask the big questions. How do you balance looking fly-as-hell, while simultaneously upholding the pillars of sustainability? If you've ever wondered how your shopping habits are impacting people around the world, look no further. Ana talks to us about the history behind the current fashion industry, and the problems that arise when she tried to find easy answers about how to look good while doing good. Tune in to hear our discussion and get some tips on how to fix fast fashion and slow down the impact of the industry as a whole.

  • Food & Sustainability: Pop Culture
    Feb 13 2021

Can Kim Kardashian influence people to go vegan? Is faux meat sexy now? What about Lizzo, who isn't vegan for a paycheck? This week we compare the impacts celebrities can have when they share their (sustainable) eating habits with the world. We tackle questions like is it ok to be paid to be vegan, and should tv shows be held to a higher sustainability standard if it doesn't involve the plot. We are taking the buzzwords from last episode and applying them to famous pop culture icons, with the help of our good friend Caitlin Lahey, a sustainable foods professional, engineer, and connoisseur of fine pop culture.

  • Food & Sustainability: Where Things Get Confusing
    Feb 1 2021

Hey, that's ok, Haylee and Amanda are here to help! This week we are diving into a discussion to clear up the confusion surrounding the terms used to define what people do and don't eat. Don't know the difference between vegetarian, and vegan? What about environmental vegan vs. ethical vegan? This episode makes the distinctions clear, but we also take it a step further. Have you been told that a plant only diet is the most sustainable? We are here to debunk that myth, and look at the cultural and systematic complexities that have always existed, but are often ignored. We hope you enjoy this episode!
