The Mayhem Classic went off this past weekend and the first 4 athletes earned their tickets to the 2025 CrossFit Games. As we look back at the event, was it a success? Bigger picture, what makes a CrossFit Semifinal a success.

We take a look at the 4 questions I think can determine if an event is a success or not.

The 2025 Mayhem Classic will see 20 men fight for 2 tickets to the 2025 CrossFit Games. Out of the 20 men, I think 5 are favorites for the Games tickets, Austin Hatfield, Colten Mertens, James Sprague, Jayson Hopper and Roman Khrennikov. For two of these men, how they do in Event 3 will likely determine their fate in the competition.

For Colten Mertens and Austin Hatfield event 3 pairs a wheelhouse movement in Thrusters with a movement that has given them troubles in the past, Legless Rope Climbs. Will they pick up points and event win, or will they give away some points to the other contenders?

You have the CrossFit Games with it's 10 in-person qualifying events along with the in-affiliate Semifinals happening over 9 weeks. The World Fitness Project tour stop one is also smack dab in the middle of that. Then you have the CrossFit Games and the World Fitness Project Event 2 in August. Plus the Rogue Invitational, the World Fitness Project Finals and Wodapalooza between Halloween and the end of January.

That's a lot of CrossFit in 2025. It's also going to be a challenge for athletes to know when and how much to compete.

I take a look at the logistics and timelines of what some athletes could be looking at this season. From three competitions a year, to potentially three in a month.

For the 2025 CrossFit Games season, the top 1% of athletes from the CrossFit Open will be eligible to advance to the In-Affiliate Semifinals. 12 men and 12 women will advance from the In-Affiliate Semifinals to the CrossFit Games. Everyone in CrossFit, the athletes, the fans and the coaches want it to be the right 12 people.

Recently the Syndicate Crown and The Fittest Experience announced that they will be representing North America East and North America West respectively. And both will be using the CrossFit Open as a qualifying tournament. The details of the 2025 CrossFit Games are still a little slim, but we know a few things.

1. There will be a minimum of 30 men and women competing at the 2025 CrossFit Games.
2. There are 9 Sanctional events, who will qualify 16 men and women to the Games.

This implies that at least 14 athletes will qualify from the CrossFit Games from the new online Semifinal.

Based on this information, who would have qualified for the Games in 2024 with the 2025 rules in place?
