About this listen

Welcome to Friend Seekers Anonymous, your weekly podcast about the quest for friendship. We are two 20-something women in search of community. Consider us your guinea pigs! We'll try anything and everything to find new friends--apps, classes, books, community events, meetups--and we'll report back on our findings. Want us to try something specific? Drop us a line!

  • 222 - A New App Review!
    Jan 8 2025

Tired of meeting potential new friends one at a time? 222 let's you meet a bunch all at once! (But not in a scary way.) This week, we’re reviewing the group-hang app 222. If you’re a person who’s short on free time, this app is a great way to make several connections in just a few hours. It’s also a good option if you’re tired of social apps that lead with photos, because there are none. We’ll walk you through the premise of the app, the sign-up process, the actual event options and structure, and the post-event follow-up. We’ll talk about the pluses and minuses of this app, as well as debrief our own experiences (which were very different from each other). As always, get ready for some good stories, and another new way to make friends!

  • New Year New Vibes
    Jan 1 2025
Happy New Year, Listeners! In this episode, we talk about using the new year as a personal growth moment by connecting with people you might otherwise not and trying activities outside of your usual bubble. We especially encourage reaching across age and life-stage divides. Even if you don't see the potential for long-term friendship, you still get the benefits of new perspectives and social practice! We discuss the upsides of living more in the moment rather than striving for a specific outcome, particularly as it pertains to new situations and new people. We challenge the idea of "rejection" and the fear/resistance it brings up. We suggest various methods of making new friends, both IRL and through technology, and we recommit to trying these paths on behalf of our listeners (tune in next week when we review our first non-Bumble app experience with 222!). Finally, we share our own hopes and fears for the new year. We hope you'll navigate 2025 with us!

  • Friend Breakups
    Dec 29 2024
Friend breakups are hard, but it helps to know when they're appropriate and how to handle them gracefully. In this episode, we discuss when and how to communicate your feelings honestly without being hurtful. We talk about the difference in approach for a short-term connection vs. a longer term friendship. We also discuss how to handle it when the tables are turned and a friend breaks up with you--how to ask for and calmly accept feedback without taking it personally. Along the way, we'll tell stories of our own adventures in friendship endings, some funny and some...less. Thanks for joining us!
