About this listen

Every six months, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gather to share messages in general conference. This podcast consists of an in-depth look at each of these messages. In particular, the hosts identify the invitations that were extended by the speakers, and then discuss ways that listeners can become "doers of the word" and take action on these invitations. The hosts for this podcast are Mitch Peterson and Clay Soelberg, both of whom are active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The views expressed in this podcast are those of its creators.Mitch Peterson and Clay Soelberg Christianity Ministry & Evangelism Spirituality

  • What to Do If Your Life's Recipe Tastes. . . Off — Elder John D. Amos, "The Good News Recipe"
    Jan 26 2026

01/25/2026 S6E51, Episode #212, Elder John D. Amos, General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, October 2025 General Conference, "The Good News Recipe."

Clay and Mitch were joined by special guest, Kayla Shields. As Elder Amos's message centered on a recipe analogy with Jesus Christ being the "secret ingredient," we were thrilled to have Kayla share her faith and experiences cooking in the Lion House Pantry, a restaurant in Brigham Young's former Salt Lake City residence.

We discuss Elder and Sister Amos's very impressive backgrounds in nuclear engineering and at NASA, how to find "recipes" in the scriptures, and Kayla shares a helpful story of what to do if something feels like it's gone wrong in your life plan.

Bonus: our newsletter subscribers are receiving Sister Amos's famous jambalaya recipe!

  • Armed Robber vs Dallin H. Oaks + the Lord—Chicago 1970
    Jan 23 2026

Let me stop you right there. This bonus mini episode is a MUCH better experience on YouTube. If you haven't subscribed to our YouTube channel yet, here's an example of what you can look forward to!

01/22/2026 S6E50, Episode #211, President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

SURPRISE! This is a bonus mini episode that Clay put together. Even Mitch doesn't know about it! Hehe. We're coming across invaluable teachings and amazing stories from President Oaks in our Come Listen to a Prophet's Voice Saturday newsletters and this one was too good not to share. It's primarily a YouTube video (and you really should watch it there and subscribe), but since many of you fine folks only know us as a podcast, I'm also releasing it as an episode so you won't miss out.

In 1992, then-Elder Oaks told of a Chicago summer night in 1970 when he and his wife, June, were held at gunpoint by a robber. Their terrifying ordeal, what the Spirit showed young Dallin would happen if he fought the robber, and the outcome of it all are images you'll never forget!

  • Only God Knows Your Degree of Difficulty—Sister J. Anette Dennis, "Cheering Each Other On"
    Jan 20 2026

01/20/2026 S6E49, Episode #210, Sister J. Anette Dennis, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, October 2025 General Conference, "Cheering Each Other On."

Clay and Mitch were joined by Aubrey Grossen, author of He Came For Me: Stories of Christ Coming to Modern-Day Women. Aubrey shared her raw and important stories of facing multiple periods of debilitating postpartum depression and anxiety, once when her husband was called as Bishop only nine days after Aubrey gave birth, and how teenage angels, a devoted husband, and a stellar ward rescued her.

Clay shares the incredible background story of Orville Rogers, a world record holding 100-year-old athlete who flew planes into remote parts of the world for Bible translation missions and followed spiritual guidance that eventually allowed him to donate many millions of dollars to Christian causes.
