  • Liberty Bowl Preview, Recruiting Recap & Owens’ Crazy Playoff | Golden Valley Views - KU Football
    Dec 26 2022

Kansas is missing a few of its players who made the season solid, but again, it’s nothing compared to what the Hogs lost. The biggest killers missing are in the defensive back seven. Star linebacker Drew Sanders and Bumper Pool were the team’s top two tacklers, and the secondary is undergoing a few major changes. Kansas should be able to take advantage of all the new guys. The Jayhawks led the Big 12 in third down conversions – Arkansas, even with all its parts and despite being amazing at getting to the quarterback, was awful defensively on third downs. They can hit the deep shots, and QB Jalon Daniels and company will keep the offensive pressure on. Daniels and the ground game should get moving, too. The Hogs were 1-4 when giving up 190 rushing yards or more, the Jayhawks were 5-1 when getting that many or more....

  • Texas Loss Reactions, Preview K-State, Offseason Focus & Needs - Golden Valley Views - KU Football
    Nov 25 2022

Kansas football coach Lance Leipold has agreed to a contract extension that is expected to keep him in Lawrence for the long haul, a source with knowledge of the conversations between KU and Leipold told the Journal-World on Tuesday night. ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report Tuesday’s contract news, noting that KU and Leipold have agreed to terms on a new contract that includes an extension through the 2029 season. It also almost certainly comes with a significant raise that sources have said could as much as double what Leipold’s original six-year deal with Kansas was slated to pay him. Tuesday’s news is the culmination of a season’s worth of negotiations and contract talk that started as early as Week 3 or 4 while Leipold’s second Kansas team raced out to a 5-0 start and back into the national polls. With momentum already on their side, the KU administration announced a one-year extension for Leipold before the season opener in September. That added a year to his initial six-year deal, which he signed in April 2021 that included an escalating annual salary that would pay him $16.5 million total, or an average of $2.75 million per year. Leipold, who has led the long-suffering program to bowl eligibility in just his second season in charge of the program, has said throughout the season that his intention is to be at KU for a long time. Now, he has agreed to a new deal that will make that a certainty. In doing so, it puts an end to nearly constant chatter about Leipold as a hot candidate at both Nebraska and Wisconsin, schools he has significant ties to from the past.  s/o - https://m.kusports.com/news/2022/nov/22/espn-reporting-ku-extends-contract-football-coach-/

  • Kansas vs Oklahoma State Preview, Jalon Daniels Moxie, Defense Fixes, Can We Win? - Golden Valley Views - KU Football
    Nov 4 2022

Kansas can use the break. Everyone connects on passes against the Jayhawk D, but Oklahoma State will put up yards and points – Kansas State won’t happen again. Kansas has to keep up, and it’s got the offense to do it. QB Jason Bean has been fine in place of an injured Jalon Daniels, the offense continues to be the best in the Big 12 on third downs, and no one in the conference is better at cranking up the downfield throws

  • Jalon Daniels Return, Bye Week News, What Needs To Improve & Can We Go Bowling?- Golden Valley Views - KU Football
    Oct 27 2022

After dropping three hard-fought games in a row and with a slew of injuries still hampering the program, the Kansas Jayhawks need a week off in the worst way. Fortunately for coach Lance Leipold's group, that's exactly what they're getting with a bye on tap for Week 9. It's an opportunity for KU to regroup physically and mentally, and hopefully to rest up for a late-season push for bowl eligibility. It's a legitimate step forward for Kansas to have competed in each of the last three games, even when things looked especially grim early, given its recent history of getting crushed by conference foes

  • Oklahoma Recap, Why We Lost, Baylor Preview & Season Outlook - Golden Valley Views - KU Football
    Oct 17 2022

KU fell out of this week’s AP Top 25 after a 52-42 loss at Oklahoma over the weekend. The loss dropped the Jayhawks to 5-2 on the season (2-2 in Big 12 play) and was KU’s second in a row. In Week 6, KU lost at home to then-No. 17 TCU, 38-31, in front of a sold-out crowd as the featured game for ESPN’s College GameDay. That outing, which Kansas nearly won, was impressive enough for the pollsters to keep the Jayhawks right where they were at No. 19 in the poll. But the second consecutive loss was enough for voters to drop them. KU fell 11 spots into the “others receiving votes” category and essentially will enter Week 8 as the No. 30 team in the nation. KU received 12 points in this week’s voting, which put them 102 points behind No. 25 Tulane. TCU, which knocked off No. 8 Oklahoma State this weekend in a battle of two of the top teams in the Big 12, jumped up to No. 8 in this week’s poll. The Frogs are the highest ranked member of the Big 12 Conference, which has four teams ranked this week in addition to Kansas receiving votes. Oklahoma State (5-1) fell to No. 11, Kansas State (5-1) stayed put at No. 17 and Texas jumped up two spots to No. 20 after its Week 7 win over Iowa State. KU’s next opportunity to make a case to jump back into the Top 25 will come Saturday morning when the Jayhawks play at Baylor at 11 a.m. in Waco, Texas. - Kusports.com

  • TCU Recap, Jalon Daniels Shoulder Injury, Oklahoma Preview, Keys To Success - Golden Valley Views - KU Football
    Oct 10 2022

The Jayhawks lost their showdown with TCU in front of another sold-out crowd, 38-31, with Jason Bean playing most of the game after Jalon Daniels suffered a suspected AC Joint Separation. However, Kansas held steady and are ranked at No. 19. Redshirt senior quarterback Jason Bean at least delivered when he came  in for Daniels, impressing Leipold. In what was basically just one half  of action Bean, the starter for much of last year but Daniels’ backup  this year, ran for 34 yards on seven attempts and threw for 262 yards  and four touchdowns with one interception. But Bean’s quality play, and  the success teammates of his had, couldn’t overcome the mistakes Kansas  made in all three phases of the game.
