About this listen
The ancient flint mine Grime’s Graves, in Norfolk, was created over 4,500 years ago, at the same time that Stonehenge was being built. Here, over 400 pits were dug by Neolithic people in order to extract the special jet-black flint used for making tools, weapons and ceremonial objects. Join archaeologist Phil Harding and English Heritage historian Dr Jennifer Wexler as they explore the site, descend the mines, and discover what life was like for the communities who worked mining flint here thousands of years ago.
You can find out more about Grime’s Graves by going to: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/grimesgraves where you can also explore a 360 ° virtual tour of Greenwell’s Pit.
