Hear from coaches breaking down strategy, players sharing the grind behind the game, administrators offering insider perspective, alumni reflecting on what it means to wear the jersey, and fans who bring the energy every season. Hawk Talk dives into the moments that define teams, shape seasons, and build a community around sport.

  • Alumni Legends, Lottery Wins, and a Battle with #1 Meade
    Jan 20 2026

This week’s Hawk Talk was recorded in the calm before the storm—right before tip-off of South River vs. top-ranked Meade in a packed gym on Alumni Night.

While the Seahawks ultimately fell 61–54 in a hard-fought battle, the real win came from the stories. We welcomed back Seahawks spanning generations—from the very first South River basketball team in 1979 to a legend who went on to play for Georgetown under the iconic John Thompson.

You’ll hear unforgettable alumni moments, including:

    • Coach Dunne winning the lottery… yes, literally
    • What South River basketball was really like back in the early days
    • How the program’s culture has evolved—and what hasn’t changed at all

It’s a night that reminded everyone why Hawks basketball is bigger than the scoreboard.

  • Back to the Hardwood: Darren Hall Talks Expectations, Energy, and Game One
    Dec 4 2025

Winter sports have officially arrived and Hawk Talk is hitting the hardwood with Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach Darren Hall. Fresh off South River’s thrilling football playoff run, Tom sits down with Coach Hall to preview a basketball season packed with high expectations, big personalities, and some serious height in the lineup.

Coach Hall breaks down the triple-header season opener at Glen Burnie, how the football-to-basketball crossover crew is adjusting on the fly, and why this year’s senior-heavy squad might just be built for a deep March run. We spotlight returning stars, rising juniors, and what it means to carry last season’s 21-win momentum into a brand new campaign where the scoreboard resets to 0–0.

Plus: behind-the-scenes on the successful Thanksgiving Rec Tournament fundraiser, a look ahead to the Smoky Mountain Winter Classic, and a reminder to grab your tickets for Breakfast with Santa before they vanish faster than an open three in transition.

Hawk Talk is back. And it’s game week.
