Caleb boldly requests the hill country promised to him, and his faith is rewarded with Hebron as his inheritance. The land is then carefully divided among the tribes, with detailed boundaries set to ensure fairness and clarity. Ephraim and Manasseh receive their portions, though they struggle to fully drive out the Canaanites from certain areas. Despite their complaints about limited territory, Joshua encourages them to take initiative and clear the forested land and strengthen their hold on what God has given them.

The Israelites conquer Jericho after its walls collapse following God’s instructions to march around the city, sparing Rahab and her family as promised. However, their attempt to take Ai fails because of Achan’s sin, which brings judgment on the people until he is punished. With God’s guidance restored, Joshua leads a successful ambush against Ai, destroying the city and renewing the covenant by reading the law to all Israel. Soon after, neighboring kings unite against Israel, but the Gibeonites cleverly secure a peace treaty through deception, which Joshua honors despite their trickery.
