About this listen
This past weekend, we laid my grandma and Pat's mom, Grace McGinnis, to rest. The family gathered in the back of the church, prior to the start of mass, and began to sing a song, a song that is more than a song to our family.
"There's a storm across the valley
Clouds are rolling in
The afternoon is heavy on your shoulders"
The lyrics rang out as heads began to turn. Back Home Again by John Denver was sung for the second time in St. Joseph's Church, in just over 5 years. It's a special feeling to have a song mean so much to so many people, and to know that connection is because of the love of two people. Grace and Darrell McGinnis.
My grandparents opened their home to anyone in need, and to many of us who weren't in need of anything but some grandparent time.
My Grandma lost a part of herself when my Grandpa passed, and to know they are "Back Home Again", together, brings me peace.
My Grandma loved. She accepted. She believed. She will be missed by many.
