The religious elite rejected Him. His own family thought He'd lost His mind. And yet — twelve ordinary men were appointed as apostles, and a new family was being born.

In this sermon, Pastor Alex Musard continues our series through the Gospel of Mark, preaching from Mark 3:7–35. As Jesus' ministry explodes in size, the responses around Him grow more sharply divided. The crowds press in from every direction. He appoints the Twelve — not the powerful or the learned, but ordinary men called to be with Him and sent out to preach. The scribes from Jerusalem accuse Him of casting out demons by the power of Satan, and Jesus dismantles their logic with devastating precision. Then His own family arrives, convinced He has lost His mind. In one of the most searching moments in all of Mark, Jesus looks at those seated around Him and declares: these are my mother and brothers — whoever does the will of God. This passage demands a reckoning: belonging to Jesus has nothing to do with bloodline, status, or religious pedigree. It is a matter of surrender and obedience.

The grace of God doesn't fit in old wineskins — and the religious establishment of Jesus' day was about to find that out.

In this sermon, Pastor Alex Musard continues our series through the Gospel of Mark, preaching from Mark 2:1–3:6. In five rapid confrontations, Jesus exposes the bankruptcy of religion without grace: He forgives the paralytic lowered through the roof, calls the despised tax collector Levi to follow Him, defends His disciples against charges of improper fasting, and twice provokes the Pharisees over the Sabbath. In every scene, the same collision is happening — the new wine of the Kingdom cannot be contained by the old wineskins of human tradition and self-righteousness. This passage forces a searching question on every listener: Are you clinging to the form of religion while rejecting the living Christ who stands before you? Or have you been broken enough to receive the new wine of His grace?

Jesus didn't just teach about authority — He demonstrated it, and everything in His path was transformed.

In rapid succession, Mark shows us Jesus teaching in the synagogue with an authority that silenced the scribes, casting out an unclean spirit, healing Peter's mother-in-law, and cleansing a leper no one would touch. When Jesus said "Follow Me," He wasn't making a suggestion — He was issuing a royal summons.
