The New Mexico State Penitentiary riot, which took place on February 2 and 3, 1980, at the Penitentiary of New Mexico south of Santa Fe, was the most violent prison riot in U.S. history. Inmates took complete control of the prison and twelve officers were taken hostage.

Anika tells the story of young Victoria Martens. Victoria was an innocent child who was failed over and over by her mother. She continuously allowed people she hardly knew or didn't know at all around her child in order to have companionship. She attempted to be a good mom for a short period of time, but it was not enough.
