On this bonus episode of how to be an icon we look at the song that changed Christmas in Japan FOREVER! The City Pop legend Tatsuro Yamashita and his Christmas hit Christmas Eve released in 1983. You may not know his name but if you've ever heard a City Pop playlist you've probably heard his work, his albums include Ride On Time and Melodies, he also wrote the most well know city pop son Plastic Love for his wife Mariya Takeuchi. However he would write a sleeper hit Christmas Eve that took a while to take off, but with help of a set of Japanese Rail adverts would launch this song into been the Christmas song in Japan. So listen to the interesting story of how one sad Christmas song became Japan's answer to Wham's Last Christmas.
