Hey ya'll! October is National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month. Depression looks different for everyone. There are some people who are able to be pretty functional and still suffer from depression. According to Mental Health America, depression is a mood disorder. Yes, we all have our ups and downs with our mood. But a person who is depressed has these mood shifts for about two weeks. On today's episode, I'll be talking about: Symptoms of Depression. What looks like depression might not be depression. Ways to help you to navigate depression. Here are some symptoms of depression: Feeling or appearing low, empty inside, or irritable most of the day every day Losing interest in activities you would normally enjoy Changes in appetite or weight—eating more or less; gaining or losing weight Changes in sleep—either not being able to sleep or sleeping too much Changes in activity—feeling restless inside or feeling sluggish Feeling exhausted even when you seem to be getting enough sleep Speaking or moving slowly, fidgeting, or pacing Feelings of worthlessness or guilt Difficulty thinking, concentrating, or making decisions Thoughts of death or suicide Ways to navigate depression: Create a daily routine. Connect with important people in your life on a regular basis. Learn a new hobby. Go for a walk. Speaking with a therapist. October 8th is National Depression Screening Day.
