  • Fionnuala Moloney Carey: IRGT Dogs and Their Tales
    Jan 17 2023
This week we chat to Fionnuala from Timaru kennels who runs the IRGT greyhound care centre and foster centre. Fionnuala describes to us a day in the life of a retired racing greyhound and all of the steps in between before they are rehomed. Before they find their forever home there are a few boxes that need to be ticked off. For example did you know that some racing greyhounds are afraid of stairs? And some may not be familiar with household items such as the TV. Fionnuala's job is to introduce the greyhounds to new things that they may not have previously dealt with, sometimes even walking. Fionnuala also tells us that when the greyhounds are comfortable enough with walking around Croom, she takes them into the big city of Limerick to see city life. The noise, the traffic and most importantly the Starbucks puppaccinos. Have a listen to this lovely tale now!

  • Noreen O'Shea: IRGT Dogs & Their Tales
    Jan 10 2023
Rory speaks to Kerry woman now living in Dublin, Noreen O’Shea. Noreen adopted a greyhound called Ziggy after her 16 year old lurcher died. Noreen is a family friend of a greyhound trainer, Liam Dowling, and she had expressed her interest in rehoming a greyhound. After a lengthy weight, she got a call that they had a greyhound for rehoming and that was the start of a beautiful story. Ziggy is just 2 years old now and came to Noreen having never raced. She was very friendly and sociable, so the transition was relatively easy with just some introductions to household items like the TV to be made. Because the racing kennels start their day early, the biggest adjustment was getting her used to sleeping in! Noreen and her greyhound Ziggy have been enjoying their travels across Europe and she shares some of their stories and their life together. Before Christmas, we shared their lovely video, check it out on our Facebook. Have a listen!

  • John Parker: IRGT Dogs & Their Tales
    Jan 3 2023
John Parker, from Greyhound Pets of America, joins Rory to chat about his work in welcoming Irish Greyhounds and helping them join their new families across the United States of America. They rehomed 560 Irish Greyhounds in 2022, with a massive demand for greyhounds as pets in the USA. John believes that it is a win for the greyhound breed and those involved in greyhound racing as it protects the legacy of the breed and also a win for the families who welcome a greyhound into their home. John looks forward to the new year in 2023 and hopes to grow the number of Irish Greyhounds finding their forever homes in the US with loving families. Have a listen to the chat in full now.
