About this listen
Welcome back to the show, folks! We've got some absolutely gorgeous weather rolling into Oklahoma City, and I'm genuinely pumped to break it down for you today. Let's dive right into what Mother Nature has cooking for us.
Right now, Oklahoma City is sitting pretty with mostly clear skies and temperatures hovering around 47 degrees Fahrenheit. The north wind is keeping things nice and crisp at about 7 miles per hour. This is actually perfect setup weather, and here's why.
We're looking at some stellar conditions moving forward. Thursday is going to be absolutely stellar with sunny skies and highs near 73 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm not trying to be dramatic here, but this is basically textbook spring weather. The north wind will stick around at 6 to 10 miles per hour, keeping that fresh feel going. You could say we're really getting a cool breeze through town. See what I did there?
Now, here's where things get interesting. By Friday and Saturday, we're warming up nicely. Friday peaks near 76 degrees Fahrenheit under mostly sunny skies, and Saturday cranks it up to around 82 degrees Fahrenheit. But hold onto your hats because Saturday night brings a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. That's our first system of note moving into the region.
Sunday we're looking at a 30 percent chance of showers mainly before noon, with highs around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Then we settle into a more unsettled pattern early next week with scattered shower chances continuing through Wednesday.
Let's hit the Weather Playbook segment. Today I want to talk about wind shear, which is basically what happens when wind speed or direction changes with altitude. Think of it like shuffling a deck of cards where each layer moves differently. This is crucial for storm development because it can either tear apart thunderstorms or help them organize into more severe systems. Right now, our wind shear is pretty light, which is why we're expecting relatively organized activity when those storms roll through Saturday night.
Here's your three-day outlook. Thursday through Saturday is your window for outdoor activities. Saturday night things get dicey with that 50 percent thunderstorm chance. Then we're looking at scattered showers Sunday through Wednesday as systems continue to impact the area.
You know, back in my meteorology days studying at the University of Oklahoma right here in Norman, we used to say weather like this is when you appreciate those beautiful spring-like days before the severe season really kicks in.
