    In this article, we dive into Ulster County’s significant public-safety investment: the new Emergency Communications Center in New Paltz, NY. This critical project will modernize and consolidate the county’s emergency response by combining the 911 Public Safety Answering Point (which fields over 130,000 calls per year) and the Emergency Operations Center into one highly resilient facility. The $34.5 million center is being constructed under a Project Labor Agreement (PLA), ensuring quality, efficiency, and support for a robust union apprenticeship program. Designed to be ultra energy efficient and resilient against incidents like hurricanes—featuring ballistic resistant windows and redundant communication and electrical systems—the facility is expected to be complete by February 2027.
