PrEP and PEP are highly effective, HIV prevention medications.

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a daily pill or injection taken before potential exposure to prevent infection. PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is an emergency, 28-day regimen taken after potential exposure (within 72 hours) to stop the virus.

Key Differences Between PrEP and PEP

    • PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis):
      • Usage: Taken consistently before potential exposure, usually daily or as required, as explained by Canada.ca and Halifax Sexual Health Centre.
      • Target Audience: Individuals who are HIV-negative and at ongoing risk.
      • Effectiveness: Highly effective at preventing HIV; does not protect against other STIs.
    • PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis):
      • Usage: Taken after a potential exposure (e.g., unprotected sex, needle sharing) within 72 hours.
      • Duration: Must be taken for 28 consecutive days, say CATIE.ca.
      • Context: Emergency use only; it is not for ongoing protection.

    Important Notes

    • Both are prescription medications available from doctors, clinics, or sexual health centers
    • If you have a high risk of HIV exposure, you may be a candidate for PrEP, according to CATIE.ca.
    • Doxy-PEP is a different medication (antibiotic) used after sex to prevent other STIs like syphilis and chlamydia, but not HIV, explains Ending HIV.

Season 2 Epiosde 5 Beyond the Orgasm: What is Tantra?

    Special Guest: Krista Nova

    Tantrika - Teacher - Ritualist

    Krista's Bio:

At the cellular level, Krista is a Tantrika and seeker of the mystical truths. For over two decades, she has been exploring the esoteric aspects of existence through intensive training in yoga, meditation, the tantric arts, somatic counselling and intuitive healing. She continues her quest through annualstudies with renowned teachers around the world, and by guiding her own students in their thirst for experiential wisdom.

Early in this millennium, Krista completed advanced post-secondary studies in Integrative Energy Healing at Langara College in Vancouver, B.C. This 3 year diploma program infused Eastern teachings with Western scientific energymedicine toward the goal of self-mastery and spiritual development to awaken her healing potential.

In 2005, after a relentless search, she finally foundherself in the right place, at the right time, and discovered the Authentic Tantric Path she had been seeking for so long.

In Tantra,Krista discovered that sexual energy — our most potent innate resource — is apowerful tool for transformation toward the goal of spiritual enlightenment.

For the next five years, Krista embarked upon intensive theoretical studies and practical training at one of the world’s leading tantric yoga institutes, based in Southeast Asia. Her commitment and dedication allowed her to complete theentire program in record time. During these years, she surrendered to the depth of her sexuality, practiced thousands of hours of Hatha and Kundalini Yoga, completed numerous Hridaya meditation retreats, and worked intimately with allof the Maha Vidyas—the Ten Wisdom Goddesses of the Tantric tradition.

She served this tantric community by teaching Tantric Yoga, leading Women’s Groups, and organizing large Tantric rituals.

Since 2011, Krista has been based on the traditional, ancestraland unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Stó:lō andSəl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations also known as Vancouver, Canada, where she lives her heart’s calling to share the gifts of the Tantric Arts.

She coaches 1-on-1 clients and couples as well as teaching workshops, classes and retreats to support herstudents in expanding beyond their limitations, and in awakening their fullest potential. In 2014, she co-founded the Heart of Tantra Festival, which occurs each summer in the Squamish Valley in British Columbia.

Over the years of working with many Tantra teacher’s around the world she has been deeply influenced by Guru-ji Rajkumar of the Bhairavananda lineage for the more traditional elements and Homa and Mukto for the Neo Tantric explorations.

As well as tonnes of other brilliant teachers. She is also immersed in the more westernized studies of Trauma Therapy and Somatic Sex Education. She also works as a Relational somatic Therapist specializing in relational trauma.

Krista’s vision is to create a deeply connected, openhearted humanity. Her students often arrive unfulfilled in their mediocre sexual connections. Dedicated studies under her guidance will allow you to reach pure bliss: the highest state of meditative ecstasy.

With Special Guest: Veronica Merryfield from the Cape Breton Transgender Network

This episode will be posted on Thursday November 20th which is the National Day for Transgender Remembrance. This day is to honor the lives of transgender and gender-diverse people who have been murdered due to anti-trans violence and discrimination. The day serves as a reminder of the violence and systemic discrimination that the transgender community continues to face and a call to action to create a safer and more inclusive world. It is by no coincidence that we wanted to have our chat with Veronica Merryfield posted on this day.

    Veronica's Bio:

Veronica has a transgender/intersex history. Drawing from her lived experiences, her EDI training/consultancy is in demand locally and further afield. She is the founder of the Cape Breton Transgender Network, a volunteer effort to provide support, education, training and advocacy. She works with Nova Scotia Health on gender affirming policy and other government departments.
She has sat on numerous boards over the last few decades and currently sits on the the board for the Cape Breton Center for Sexual Health and the Status of Women Advisory Council, and is chair of the Undercurrent Youth Society.
