Just Glen is a weekly podcast of reflections, observations, and honest musings from a 55-year-old Australian navigating work, family, sport, culture, and the world as it is — not as it’s packaged. Some weeks it’s what’s been in the news. Some weeks it’s a mindset thought that won’t leave him alone. Other weeks it’s parenting, marriage, sport, something he’s watching, or a moment from the week that quietly mattered. This isn’t coaching. It’s not advice. And it’s definitely not a highlight reel. It’s simply one man thinking out loud — honestly, imperfectly, and without trying to impress. New episodes weekly. Glen also works in education and personal development, but this space is intentionally personal.Copyright 2026 Glen Murdoch Self-Help Social Sciences Success

  • 14. Thinking out loud about funerals and hip replacements
    May 22 2026

We start this week with a bit of a laugh about the state of our bodies. I recently went to a funeral, and instead of talking about the footy, every single bloke my age was comparing their upcoming operations. Hips, knees, shoulders — it turns out the body was keeping score the whole time we were playing 80s sport on concrete courts with zero recovery. We were athletes, and now we’re just spare parts.

But then, we get real. Funerals have a way of cutting through the noise and making you stop. I talk about the bizarre reality of having your entire life packaged up into a 10-minute slideshow and a eulogy read by a celebrant who never even met you. It made me ask a tough question: What does your slideshow look like? And who is in the room?

I also share two very personal stories about standing up for the people you love: why I couldn't speak at my mum's funeral (and how I still carry that), and how I found the words to deliver a eulogy for my great friend Sam after she took her own life.

Plus, we’ve got a massive What I’m Watching segment featuring Deadloch Season 2, Netflix’s Legends, and my frustration with the 4-episode season of Full Swing. And finally, my Star of the Week goes to a little legend named Mackenzie, who refused to accept her parents' no-lolly diet and became a ruthless playground survivor.

Pop your earpods in. Let’s go for a walk.

  • 13. Thinking Out Loud About Mother’s Day, Memories and Getting Older
    May 14 2026

This week’s episode turned into a more reflective one than I expected.

It started with watching another frustrating Essendon performance… but somehow ended up becoming an episode about memory, ageing, appreciation and the people we miss.

With Mother’s Day just passing, I found myself thinking a lot about my mum — the little details I still remember, the things I wish I could ask her now as an adult, and how strange it is that someone can be gone for decades but still feel present in your life.

Along the way I also talk about:

    • why sport memories stay with us
    • getting older and feeling different about life
    • buying Beth a Louis Vuitton scarf for Mother’s Day
    • the strange guilt and appreciation that comes with spending money on the people you love
    • and why some memories never really leave us

This one’s a little slower, more reflective, and probably says a lot about where my head’s been lately.

    ⭐ Star of the Week

A quick shoutout this week to the people who quietly shape our lives and leave a lasting impact long after they’re gone.

  • 12. Thinking out loud about Razor Blade Wars, 80s Tuckshops, and Summer House Leaks
    May 6 2026

Welcome back to Just Glen. Pop your earpods in and let's go for a walk.

This week, we are diving into the petty domestic battles we all fight but never discuss. Why do women get 80% of the bathroom real estate? Why is my razor treated with respect while Beth's is left in a puddle of water? We're calling it the Razor Blade Wars, and we need to talk about it.

We also take a trip back to the 80s to discuss the terrifying reality of watching Freddy Krueger at 10 years old, and the absolute nutritional wasteland that was the 80s school tuckshop. Plus, we unpack the leaked audio from the Summer House reunion, the reality of getting "backed up" after a flight, and why tracking your kids with an AirTag is a wild contrast to the freedom we had growing up.

Finally, we look at the reality of retirement. I have a 5-6 year plan to sell the business, but what does the next chapter actually look like? Send me a DM and let me know your thoughts.
