In today's headlines:

  • Six candidates have filed for Mason County Commissioner District 3, the seat being left open by Sharon Trask, with filing continuing through Friday at 5 PM.
  • Three people — Jeff Neely, Jim Murphy, and Ned Wilson — have submitted letters of interest for the vacant Port of Shelton Commissioner position, and the Port is still accepting applications.
  • Shelton City Council moved several water and utility items forward this week, including preliminary design for the Mountain View Reservoir, a $449,000 Department of Ecology grant to replace up to 105 older transformers that may contain PCBs, and a resolution advancing the Upper Angleside Pressure Zone project that will support up to 900 additional housing units.
  • Cloudy and breezy today with some afternoon sunshine and a high near 60.

In local sports: The Mariners beat the Braves 3-1 at T-Mobile Park last night to take the series, with Bryan Woo striking out nine over six dominant innings and Julio Rodríguez and Cole Young leading the offense.

Yesterday the North Mason Bulldogs baseball team shut out Olympic 5-0 behind a two-hitter from Danner Jones, who struck out seven over six innings, while Shelton High Climbers softball fell to Aberdeen 8-5.

Today: North Mason girls tennis competes in the Olympic League Tournament at North Kitsap, the Olympic League track and field championships are at North Mason's Phil Pugh Stadium, and in baseball it's Klahowya at North Mason and Tumwater at Shelton — all on MasonWebTV, powered by HCC.
