The boys are back... in Wabasha! That's right we revisited the 1995 sequel, Grumpier Old Men. We're talking Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau and their return as elderly frenemies, Max and John. This time their feud takes a backseat (sort of) when a new Italian restaurant threatens their beloved bait shop and brings another new woman to town.

And to celebrate these two stubborn legends, it felt only appropriate to once again crack open a beer that feels like it was brewed specifically for these movies, Old and In the Way by our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. This beer is light and crisp and the perfect companion for a day battling it out over the ever elusive Catfish Hunter.

This week we were indoctrinated by the indie comedy/thriller "How To Start A Cult in 5 Easy Steps". It follows a debt-ridden graduate who decides that if you can’t join the workforce, you should exploit it by becoming a guru. It’s a satire on modern "alpha" influencers, financial desperation, and the chaos of manipulation. It's directed by Wes Clark, who we were able to chat with and will release that interview later in the week.

And for our drink of choice we decided to stay away from the Kool Aid at the compound and instead went with a delicious 10 Ton oatmeal stout from Warped Wing Brewing Company. With it's chocolate and coffee notes and smooth creamy texture, it was the perfect thing to keep us from being swayed by a charismatic cult leader.

We are kicking off the year by turning back the clock—way, way back—to tackle the 2009 religious-adjacent comedy Year One. Directed by Harold Ramis and starring the chaotic duo of Jack Black and Michael Cera, this movie takes us on a road trip of biblical proportions through the Old Testament. Is it a misunderstood satire or a relic best left in the stone age?

Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas.

This week we took a look at another Rankin/Bass stop-motion classic, The Year Without a Santa Claus. Santa called in sick, Vixen is in the dog pound (literally), and we are caught in the middle of the ultimate sibling rivalry between Heat Miser and Snow Miser.

And to help us decide whether we're team "Mr. 10 below" or "Mr. 101," we are drinking the X-Mas Cookie from Fifty West Brewing Company. It’s a winter warmer with flavorful hints of Christmas, loaded with cinnamon, vanilla, and brown sugar. It might just be the only thing that can bring the Christmas spirit back to Southtown.
